Take a few minutes today to slow down and create something beautiful from simple yarn. Worked in just 7 quick rounds, these coasters are the perfect bite-sized project to bring a little gratitude into your day.

Gauge:
I used Red Heart Super Saver acrylic yarn. My hook size was 4.0 mm. The coaster ended up being approximately 5.5 inches.

Pattern Notes:
Use standing stitches (sc, hdc, dc, or tc) when changing colors for a cleaner finish.

The pattern alternates three colors: Yarn A, Yarn B, and Yarn C. The color change is specified in each round.

Repeats are placed in (). Stitch counts are in [ ].

The final piece may require light blocking for a flat, finished look.

Stitches (US Terms):

  • ch = chain
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • sc = single crochet
  • hdc = half double crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • tc = treble crochet
  • picot = chain 3, slip stitch into the first chain
  • st = stitch(es)
  • sp = space

Round 1

Begin with Yarn A and make a magic ring. Ch 3, counts as the first dc, then work 11 dc into the ring. Join with a sl st to the top of the starting ch 3. Fasten off Yarn A. [12 dc]

Tip: Stitch markers help greatly when working in rounds. If you find you keep miscounting, try marking the 1st stitch of each round.

Attach Yarn B with a standing hdc in any dc. Ch 1. (Hdc, ch 1) in the next st. Repeat parentheses 11 times until you reach the standing hdc. Join with a sl st to the standing hdc. Fasten off Yarn B. [12 hdc, 12 ch spaces]

Attach Yarn C with a standing sc in any ch sp. (5 dc in the next ch sp to form a shell, sc in the next ch sp). Repeat 5 times. 5 dcs in the next ch. Join with a sl st to the first sc. Fasten off Yarn C. [6 shells, 6 sc]

Attach Yarn A with a standing sc in the first dc of any shell. Work 1 sc in each of the next 4 sts, then dc in the sc between shells. (1 sc in each of the 5 dc, then dc in the sc) Repeat 5 times. Join with a sl st to the first sc. Fasten off Yarn A. [36 sts: 30 sc, 6 dc]

Attach Yarn B with a standing sc in any sc. (Ch 4, skip 2 sts, sc in the next st) Repeat 10 times. Ch 4. Join with a sl st to the first sc. Fasten off Yarn B. [12 ch-4 spaces, 12 sc]

Round 7 Picot Edging

Attach Yarn A with a standing sc in any sc. Sc in 1st dc in shell. Sl st into the next stitch, then ch 3. Sl st in the first ch made (picot made). (Sc in the next 4 st. Sl st into the 2nd dc. Ch 3. Sl st in the first ch) Repeat until you reach the first sc. Join with a sl st to the first sc. Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Tip: The picot will be made on the second dc of the shell.
